There are days when things don't go out the way you expected, and today was one of those for me. First of all the Red Ring of Dead made it's way to my loyal Xbox, and as today I have a useless piece of Microsoft hardware!!.

I was preparing for some good vacations back home, but then someone at everis phoned me to tell me I was expected at some Telefonica project several days ago, say that again!!, and so I had to phone the project manager and ask him what was I expected to do. As a result of this I'll have to go to the Santa Fe zone next Thursday. It's good because I'll have the chance to keep improving my programming skills, but I'll warn them that I'm not eager to be exploited in any way the consultancy world is used to:.

I didn't know, till yesterday, that behind the Auditorio Nacional there are some little theaters, and what's more, that on Thursday it's theater's day, so going there costs you less than going to the movies!!. So yesterday I made the most out of it and went to see 'La exhibicionista', considering it had received good critics. It was totally worth it, though it's basically a 2.5 hours monologue you don't get bored, mainly because they combine different ways of conveying their message: cinema, good music, a good actress and even a motorcycle!!. It's a good option to spend a Thursday's night if you are near the Reforma zone, give it a try:.

Yesterday there was general expectation as Obama came to visit México, an excitement comparable to when the Pope visited our country. Well, maybe I'm overreacting here, but it's true that for some hours there was nothing else on the news but the follow up of this visit. We shouldn't forget that this guy is just a guy!!, he can't solve problems by his own, though as a representative of our neighbors he is doing good in accepting that some of our bloodiest problems are caused by them, by their insatiable need of drugs and by the cynical sell of armament, and that if our governments are to fight this situation we should all take our part of responsibility.

Today I started playing with Google's App Engine support for Java, and I have to admit that it's a really interesting idea, to leverage your server environment to this enormous architecture and care about what you know best, the code:..but then again, concerns are raised as google apparently defies standard-compliance and support for an open environment. It's a recurring problem, big companies trying to redefine standards to suit their needs, but no one should ever forget that if Java has made it this far it's due to community support, a compatibility-standard-loving community (to some extend) by the way!!:.

Yesterday night I went to one of the best concerts of the year, Trabe Ballena, right in Texcoco center. The new songs sounded to me in the style of Explosions In The Sky, really good indeed. And the classics were terrific, as usual!!:.

After the concert I went to the traditional Feria del Caballo with my brothers and some old friends. Good music, huge drinks and beautiful women all around, it's really worth the visit:..but what I really enjoyed was the chance to have a good talk with my old friends, funny how time changes the way we see life:.

Today we went to watch the newest DreamWorks' movie, Monsters vs Aliens, and I have to admit I was expecting a little bit more. Anyway, I'm telling this because we went to watch it in the morning, the true way to see a movie!!:.cheaper prices, less people, meaning less noise, and you have the whole day to think about the movie. If Cinemas Lumiere had some kind of membership it would be great, but this world is far from perfect, so as one of the Final Five used to say, I'll stay with the best I can get, the Cinepolis membership:.

Yesterday's big news included IBM withdrawing its offer for Sun, causing it to lose quite a lot of market value and putting in danger some of their managers. But what's really important is the discussion about the future and validity of the Java environment. IMHO the platform has being doing good so far because the ones in control are not as competitive as others, they don't care a lot about making profits, it's not in their nature, or maybe they just don't know how to do it, anyway, that's been good for all because it has allowed for many players to come, which ultimately promotes further improvements to the platform. I'm not sure if this environment can survive with someone as competitive as IBM in charge:.

I know it's not the same, because of the JCP, but I can recall one of the motivations for the Algol programming language, community concern about how IBM dominated the market with its most powerful tool at the time, Fortran!!:.

I won't have to work till April 14th!!:..but unfortunately today's trip caused me to loose one of my earphones plugs, it's a shame because without it you can hear the outside world, and I don't really want to do that, anyway, I think I have its replacement back at home, let us hope I can find it:.

The Cinemex card that allowed you to go and watch any movie any time is no longer available and I'm really disappointed with this decision. I suppose it has something to do with the cinema crisis that we've experienced for that last decade, but I was really looking forward to buy this card and use it to spare sometime with my family and colleagues. On the other hand, the Cinepolis card is still available, though it costs a little bit more and the cinemas are not too close to my home as the Cinemex's were. That leads me to a bigger issue, the fact that I don't really have a home of my own!!:..but that's another story:.

Two weeks ago I formatted my machine and I had to use my mp3 player as backup, the bad news were that I had to delete all my music to do so, but now that my machine is up and running again I'm starting to fill it again!!.
The good news are that now I have the support of a great tool to search all sorts of music, Spotify, and though I can't download anything from there yet, I can use it to discover bands that I wouldn't have heard about otherwise.

My music quest has just begun, but so far I truly recommend you hear the Scala & Kolacny brothers albums, Dream on is the one I like the most, but all of them are terrific.

Besides Spotify, you can find them using another great tool, the turkish music and video search engine, http://fizy.com, their cover of U2's With or Without You is amazing, http://fizy.com/s/118ot3.
